NINTH ANNUAL SACKETS HARBOR JAZZ FESTIVAL .

We are proud to present the ninth edition of our little Festival,

again featuring The Speakeasy Jazz Babies and the Russ Kassoff Trio, with vocalist Catherine Dupuis, as well as additional jazz stars soon to be announced.

Although it looked as if we would have to close down after coming up short on funding last year, P.J. Simao and his Dealmaker Auto Group stepped up and promised to support us again. Many thanks are due P.J. You should all go and buy a car from him.

As is well known by now, a group of local volunteers led by Jeff Derouin spent the summers of 1987 and 1988 building the beautiful Sentinel Bandstand at the water’s edge in Market Square Park. Our Festival grew out of the builders’ question, “Well, we’ve put this thing up—what can we put in it?”

Our Festival started modestly in August of 2000 with an evening performance by the North Country Preservation Jazz Band and the Russ Kassoff Duo, featuring Linc Milliman on bass.

 In the eight years since that modest debut, we have brought many world-renowned jazz stars to Sackets, including, Rob McConnell, the Susie Arioli Band, featuring JordanOfficer, tenor saxophonists Harry Allen and Ted Nash, guitarists Bucky Pizzarelli and Joe Cohn, clarinetist Ken Peplowski, star vocalist Mark Murphy and many others.

We are looking forward to this year’s Festival with particular pride, and we are pleased
to announce that we have already received our first two contributions (see the “Contributors” page).
